"FEEDBACK IS MOST POWERFUL WHEN YOU CATCH SOMEONE DOING THE RIGHT OR WRONG THING"
A Guide to Being a Good Mentor to Employees
Feedback is a powerful tool in management. Used effectively, it can increase confidence, improve productivity and enhance performance - but it must be sincere, immediate and constructive.
Here are a few ideas you may find helpful
Continually provide feedback
Whether it's informal, on-the-run comments or formal performance reviews, feedback will always be less traumatic and more effective if it's given constantly.
Provide immediate feedback if possible
It's most powerful when you catch someone doing the right or wrong thing. Only delay feedback if it would embarrass the employee in front of others.
Be specific
Instead of saying, 'Your manners are unacceptable,' give a member of staff the chance to change their behaviour by saying, 'I was disappointed this morning's meeting when you kept talking while I was speaking.'
