"AVOID HAZARDS WHERE YOU WORK - TO STAY SAFE YOU MUST BE RISK AWARE."
Be Safe!
Safety policy & risk assessment
If your employers have more than 5 or more people working for them, they will have their own safety policy, which will state their organisation's commitment to health and safety
It will spell out the procedures which are in place to ensure that you are working in safe conditions. Your employers should also have produced an assessment of the risks to your safety and should be told of these results.
Tidiness
Slips, trips and falls are still the major causes of accidents. To prevent them:
- Don't leave things lying around - keep work areas tidy and clear
- Clean spills up right away
- Always close drawers
Hygiene
Dirt and contact with chemicals such as toner cartridges etc, can make you ill and cause skin problems. Always:
- Wash your hands using soap and water or a suitable cleanser
- Dry your hands with paper towels or dryers provided. Don't use rags, cloths or your own clothing
- Always use barrier creams to protect your skin if they are provided
- Get medical advice about any skin complaints, rashes, blisters etc and follow the treatment prescribed
