Application Forms

POINTS TO NOTE

Interest/ Activities

Don't just give a list, try to expand on one or two. Keep in mind the impression you're creating and never invent exotic hobbies.

Referees

Before giving someone’s name as a referee get his or her permission. This isn't only courteous, it's also sensible! Normally you will need a reference from an employer or some professional person who knows you personally.

Synopsis (Summary)

Some forms have summary sections. Think hard about what you want to put in these as some employers will preselect applicants chiefly on the basis of the synopsis.

Gaps

Never leave a section blank unless it is quite obviously inappropriate to you. Questions such as "do you suffer from a major disability?" should be answered either "yes", in which case be honest about your limitations but positive about your capabilities and achievements, or "no". Gaps in your employment history should also be avoided. If you have been unemployed say so, but again be positive about how you used your time.
