"IN YOUR APPLICATION, USE LANGUAGE WHICH IS POSITIVE, ACTIVE AND APPROPRIATE TO THE TYPE OF WORK YOU ARE APPLYING FOR"
Application Forms
POINTS TO NOTE
Additions
If there is something you are burning to say which you think is a good point in your favour, use your imagination to fit it into the most appropriate part of the form, or use the "additional information" section. Normally this section is for use as a summary of why you want the particular job with that employer and what you have to offer. Attach an extra page to the form (on good quality plain paper) if there isn't enough room in a particular section, but remember that the point of an application form is that it is a concise way of presenting information. Organise the form carefully and make sure your selling points are emphasised.
Filling it in
Copy very carefully from your draft using black ink (as this photocopies better). Crossings-out look unsightly, but if you do make a small mistake, use Tippex or similar. Remember that the appearance of the form is the very first impression you will give before even a word is read. So scruffy, smudged, stained, dog-eared application forms are very definitely out!!
Applying Online
This is becoming a popular way to apply for a job so make sure that you follow any instructions on how to fill out the form. Use language which is positive, active and appropriate to the type of work you are applying for and ask a friend or relative to check the form before you send it off and don’t forget to save a copy for yourself.
