Get Britain Working

Acorn Training is supporting the ‘Get Britain Working’ initiative.

In these uncertain times for job seekers any chance of a job opportunity or training under an Apprenticeship has to be a right choice, which is why Acorn has opened its doors to potential work experience opportunities.

In partnership with the local Job Centre Plus we are aiming to support applicants into work by offering them work experience opportunities within the business.

The first applicants will be supporting our Administration departments across three service sectors, with the second strand of work experience coming for the catering sector through our Bistro.

These placements will support the applicants for up to eight weeks, giving each person a real opportunity to gain a valuable learning experience through mentored support and work experience.

As part of the campaign we have just seen a successful Jobs Fair held at Acorn’s premises, which showed how successful these types of events can be in getting people back into work.

The event was held on the 31st March at Knightsbridge Place, Ripley to promote the local community to potential job seekers from Heanor and Ripley.

The event was supported by employers and other training providers who manned their own sections , allowing access for unemployed people to speak and complete applications for employment as they visited the site.

A team from the local connexions service were on hand to offer support and guidance to young people and find suitable opportunities.

A strong theme was prorated throughout the day and even now beyond the day that “there is work out there” and “being IT savvy is going to be vital, it is going to open a lot of doors for you” quotes from Joanna JCP Manager.

Acorn itself provided the venue and buffet for the stall holders.

During the event Acorn’s Beauty Foundation Learners carried out nail work to raise money for their end of year project.

Overall the day was a great success.

Acorn’s Marketing Manager Kimberley said the day was a huge success and we hope that more themes like this will become a regular thing for Acorn.

Future themes coming:

We are looking to support the next campaign in Get Britain Working by working with local partners to provide unemployed people access to a Job Club.

This is still under construction at this time but with developments moving as they have in the last JCP projects we aim to provide this soon.

Acorn’s 6 month offer in collaboration with Chesterfield College has gone from strength to strength with learners attending Acorn to undertake a three week course in Food Hygiene and work experience, this has seen all the applicants achieve their Food Hygiene Level 2 award, “this is a 100% pass rate for the course”.

Another example of how Acorn is supporting people back into work.
